Woohoo, Card Deck!

I got my first shipment of card decks in today! Which means that anyone else who ordered early on will probably get their soon too. I'm really happy with the print quality; I actually think the art looks better on the printed cards than it did on my computer screen, which is a relief. I ordered five decks, one for playing, one to keep, and three to sell locally.

Now I suddenly feel the urge to design more card decks! I've been wanting to do a parrot species card deck for awhile...

But anyway, here are some photos of the new card deck in action, as well as the game rules! (btw, the deck can also be used as a standard card deck.)

DotU Prints are Now Available!

I've been using imagekind to sell my prints for awhile now, and they're a great company. My top selling print is a commission of Adam Lambert that I did a couple of years ago, but I'd love for some of my original work to overtake it.

I've added a handful of new images for Demon of the Underground to my gallery, and they're now available for purchase. There are three promo images and a portrait of Annie. Enjoy!

BikesBikesBikes... and East Sphere Peeps

So what have I been up to in the many many days since the end of Nanomango? Eh... working. And inking/coloring pages. I'm still holding off on releasing the finished pages until 7/11 for my website and 7/18 everywhere else, but that can't stop me from posting other junk here!

I've completed 65 penciled pages so far, and in the next batch of pages I'll be drawing, I'll have to address the question of transportation for people underground. The answer? Because of the narrow passages down there, everyone rides motorcycles. Or at least, everyone who's lucky enough to have a vehicle has a motorcycle. (Pogo, you're gonna have to hitch a ride on the back of Samsid's! ;)

So here's a bunch of bike designs for the various spheres and people in them.



Oh, and a little sketch of Samsid's crew, which Pogo has the joy of meeting in Chapter 1, part 3! From left to right:
--Merritt - senior officer, formerly from the North Sphere. He was captured in battle by the East, and it's only thanks to Troy arguing on his behalf that Samsid didn't kill him.
--Jackal - a fighter, usually working under Jordana. He's kind of a psycho and doesn't always follow orders.
--Samsid/Pogo - We already know them!
--Jordana - junior officer, who I presume to be the most careless person in Samsid's military judging by the number of scars she has. ^_^ She's freshly promoted after being a fighter for a few years.
Troy - general. We met him for a brief moment in Chapter 1, Part 2. He's a douche. He wants to be --Samsid's second in command, or better yet, a king.
--Littlehands - a fighter, usually working under Merritt. He's a very formidable fighter, and he also loves knitting and embroidery.

Nanomango Complete!

And I have 30 new pages of DotU penciled! It's a good thing I built up a buffer early on, because I barely had time to draw during this last week, what with my big meeting at work, staying extra hours, and getting stuck in crazy traffic because of stuff like trucks being on fire.

But am I stopping now that the month is over? No way! It's ink and color time! I gotta do something to keep my mind off of the current drama at work...

Have I mentioned that DotU is heavily influenced by my experiences at working in a corporate environment?

Nanomango - Almost There!

I've completed the last of my 30 pages for Nanomango; I just need to clean up the last five of them, scan them in, and unleash them on the nets! I have a feeling, though, that "cleaning up" will actually end up meaning redoing several panels. But that's all right!

I'm excited for tomorrow, which is the official launch of DemonoftheUnderground.com! This whole month, it's been difficult to think about anything other than this project. I was up until maybe 4am yesterday inking another page because I couldn't sleep. I love that Nanomango has gotten me to plow through such a vast amount of story in a short time; it keeps me motivated knowing that the story is moving along.

Oh, for those of you who don't know, Nanomango is a challenge to draw 30 comic pages in 30 days. This is my fourth time participating, and it looks like I'll be 4 for 4. I alternate between Demon of the Underground and Ludwig the Rock, my other comic project.

Chapter 1 Cover - First Look!

Man, black and white is soooo much quicker than color! I don't think I've actually done black and white art since my sophomore year of college, and it's kind of nice to get back to that. I forgot that I actually enjoyed it. ^_^

I think this cover pretty much defines the relationship between Pogo and Samsid throughout the story. And the definition is "unclear." Samsid is never particularly forthcoming about his intentions, and Pogo's not exactly a sincere dude either. Is Samsid the antagonist, or is he the best ally Pogo could get in the underground?

Back!

It's been forever since I've updated this blog, but I'm back to working on this comic again and should be ready to release it some time in July. I want to build up a little bit more of a buffer first, but I'm well on my way!

I've also been working on a deck of cards that goes along with the story. The characters in the story play this card game as a way of keeping track of the social status changes of their fellow citizens. I'm not sure exactly why I spontaneously decided to put together 53 portraits, but there you are.



I've been doing new pages of DotU for Nanomango, and things have been going well! Aside from a few health-related hiccups, I'm going strong and am a couple pages ahead of schedule. By the end, I'll have 65 total penciled pages for this story. I love Nanomango!

The website is up, but not exactly active yet. There's some stuff to look at, but the comic pages I've put up so far are just place holders. But included in those pages is a preview of page 2 from the comic:

New and Improved... and Old

I'm still plugging away at the website, and I think I should be able to launch the new layout and integrate it with this blog in a few days! Meanwhile, I was looking through some of the illustrations and studies I've done this year, and I came across this pinup of Pogo that I did a few months before I started roughing out "Demon of the Underground." It's the first illustration I did of him in the underground and at this slightly younger age.



For a long time, I wasn't particularly pleased with the image, but then I realized that it was just very dark overall and thus none of the details were visible. So I fiddled with it, lightened it up, and now I think it's fit to be seen again!

I'm going to release it as a limited edition print when I start up the comic. More details soon!
